Sailing Catamarans

The lagoon boat types are excellent for someone looking to charter and learn how to sail on a catamaran. The experts say that in your first trips in the sea, it is wiser to sail a mid-length boat than a small or a really big one. The medium length boats behave better in the sea; a fact that makes them easier to be sailed by novice users. The catamaran sailing experience is unique and you will remember it for all your life.

Make a proper start though, do your lessons, get your diploma, rent an experienced skipper and sail on! The big boy of the lagoon family is the lagoon 620, in which, eight people can sleep as it has four cabins. Its length is about 19 meters and it can be hard to turn if you are not experienced enough. Also, bigger boats are difficult to cope with when the wind is stronger than usual. Learn on the smaller ones. Try to avoid the really small ones. For example, two lagoon catamarans which are perfect for first time experience are the lagoon 440 and the lagoon 380. Not many differences among them, in terms of amenities and tools and their lengths are similar, ranging from 11 to 12.5 meters. A good skipper is what you are looking for. Watch, speak, listen and learn. Ask your questions and monitor closely the entire skipper’s moves in order to understand how the experienced personnel cope with certain situations. Next year, if you feel safe, you can give it a try on your own. Leave fewer responsibilities to the skipper and try to sail the catamaran on your own in order to learn. After all, the time that you and your friends will be sailing alone is not that far!
